Humanists in Healthcare

Mission:

Humanists in Healthcare unites the humanist community by putting humanist values and compassion into positive action. Humanists in healthcare recognize the individuals within and in support of the healthcare field to organize, assist, and support them and to make evident that the good they do is guided by reason, inspired by compassion, and informed by experience

Goals:

  1. Highlight positive/encouraging stories and good deeds and point out issue’s healthcare workers and affiliates face
  2. Assist and support humanists to safely publicly identify themselves and provide a sense of community.
  3. Organize healthcare related charity, volunteer events, and humanitarian missions.
  4. Promote science- and evidence-based practice in the healthcare setting.

Humanists in Healthcare  is a project of the Washington Area Secular Humanists (WASH). If you put science over dogma and believe that reason should come first, we encourage you to join in. We do not have a religion test, so you can be of any belief or none.

We will start meeting online only. One need not be a member of WASH to join. We will attempt to do gatherings once the pandemic subsides.

This project is being organized by Ovais Khalil, a nurse in Maryland. For more information, contact Ovais (ovais@wash.org).

Ovais describes Humanists in Healthcare in this video.
